MENTAL DISORDERS are the costliest​ ​medical​ ​condition​ ​in​ ​the US. An estimated $201B was spent on them in 2013 - a figure that’s steadily growing alongside our population.
 

OVERCROWDED PRISONS & JAILS are facing the brunt of this mental health crisis. Over 50% of incarcerated US adults have a mental health condition, while roughly half suffer from Substance Use Disorder (SUD).

PRISON has proven to be ineffective in recovery for both mental health and SUD recovery yet that is the primary solution today – even for non-violent offenders.

PROGRESSIVE CRIMINAL JUSTICE ENTITIES (courts, counties, states) are all moving towards jail diversion for those with mental health and SUD issues who are not a danger to society.  This will decrease the pressure on the prison system and allow real support and treatment for the diseases of mental health and SUD.

Allowing these people to pursue treatment vs incarceration has created a need for a SOPHISTICATED MOBILE MONITORING solution that is inexpensive and non-stigmatizing.

This is leaving significant challenges at the feet of Case Managers/Recovery Coaches who supervise mental health & SUD defendants and probation/parolees.

In response, technology can help alleviate these problems and empower jail diversion tactics. The market currently uses electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) monitoring devices -  more​ ​than 125,000​ ​people were​ ​tracked​ ​with​ ​the​ ​devices​ ​during​ ​a​ ​single​ ​day​ ​in​ ​2015. These devices have been useful, but have limited capabilities.
