Quick Pitch

Baseball is a game of precision. The positioning of the hands and the angle of the bat are crucial during the load sequence. As coaches and instructors we understand the importance of teaching our hitters the fundamentals of a good swing, but at times it can be difficult for the player to interpret what we are telling them. As parents we don't like to see our hitters struggling at the plate and are always looking for ways to help them gain confidence in their swing.

The Launch Laser™ is not only making it easier for coaches, instructors and parents to teach the fundamentals, it is also helping hitters understand how to get in a good launch position and build the confidence they need when they step up to the plate.

Key Features

Many coaches find that the hitter’s hands are not in a good position to start the swing, which causes the bat path to be longer and slower through the zone. When trying to instruct the hitter on how to correct the problem, coaches and even parents can overcomplicate the process by using technical terms that the player doesn’t understand which can cause players to become frustrated.

Launch Laser™ is a visual aid that assists in the instruction of proper swing techniques, while instilling confidence in each player to know they are in a good launch position. The device breaks down the steps of getting ready to hit by providing instant visual feedback as to where the bat needs to be pointed, which is generally in the area of the catcher's feet or knees.

  • Provides instant feedback
  • Helps build muscle memory
  • Fits on most bats
  • Simple to use

Launch Laser™ differs from other hitting aids in that it is an inexpensive visual tool that fits on most bats. This means the hitter can build muscle memory on his or her own bat, the same bat they would use in a game.

Traction and Funding Needs

We are raising funds to produce additional units. The product has generated a great response from coaches, hitting instructors and parents.

In January we attended two coaches’ conventions, including the American Baseball Coaches’ Association (Chicago, IL) and Mohegan Sun World Baseball/Softball Coaches’ Convention (Uncasville, CT). Between these two events we gave out 250 prototypes for coaches to test out and get back to us with their feedback. Here's what they had to say:

"I can talk to them til I'm blue in the face, but being able to give them a visual aid makes most of them understand what I'm trying to tell them." -Coach from Cromwell, CT

"I just got back from coaching a softball clinic tonight. I had five different parents ask where to get your product. I think you will be very successful with this product." - High School Coach, Rochester, NH

"I like how simple it is, that anyone can understand the concept you are trying to relay." -High School Coach & Private Hitting Instructor, Noblesville, IN

“I like that it is a quick and easy way for me, as a hitter, to make sure my hands aren’t wrapping and my arms aren’t barring and that I have a good bat position and angle throughout my swing.”  -Hitter, Hawthorne, NJ

We've also attended several local events including the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches Clinic and BaseballSavings / SoftballSavings Coaches' Open House (Wichita, KS). The product has been very well received from coaches at all levels.

In March we also attended Spring Training in Arizona at CamelBack Ranch Field, home of the Dodgers and White Sox. The product was promoted in their program and on the JumboTron.

Attending these events has given us the opportunity to not only introduce and demonstrate the product, but has also provided us with some great feedback and interest in the product.

About the Business and Team

JUSTIN MCCLUREInventor/Founder/CEO

Justin McClure is an entrepreneur who has always had a passion for baseball. He played junior college baseball and now coaches his son's little league team. After starting his own motion graphics and creative design agency in 2008, he was recently recognized as the 2012 Rising Entrepreneur of the Year by the Mid-America Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.

"Launch Laser™ came about in 2010 when my son, Bradyn, was transitioning from tee ball to seeing live pitching. He was struggling with his swing and I wanted to help by giving him a visual reference. I had the idea of placing a laser pointer in the knob of a foam bat and giving him strategic target zones so that he could visually see where the laser should be pointing. After seeing improvement in his swing almost overnight and not finding anything like it on the market, I decided to take the next steps and invent the Launch Laser™."
