Quick Pitch

DVA, Inc. has built a reputation over the last 25 years of excellence in content and customer service. Our family-owned business got its start in the 1980s buying overstocked and liquidated VHS tapes and equipment and reselling them at low prices to libraries. Today DVA is a successful, international wholesale and retail distributor of media and other consumer products to not just libraries, but businesses around the globe. We intend to expand into the digital content provider sector by providing school, university and public libraries around the country with a vast catalog of digital media.

By enabling our nations' libraries to fully enter the digital era, we can also firmly secure DVA's reputation as an unmatched content provider.

Lacking Libraries

Currently, public libraries as well as school and university libraries are lacking a source of quality digital content. While there are a few providers out there, they mostly offer outdated titles and have very limited catalogs. Libraries are desperately seeking a reliable means to update their offerings and bring them in line with modern technology, but have no industry leader to turn to for this type of content.

The DVA Solution

DVA is in the final stages of negotiating a deal with Hulu.com to provide libraries access to their incredible catalog of over 80,000 digital entertainment items. Through our partnership with Hulu we will be able to offer a far greater volume of content -- at a lower price!

We will build cloud- and mobile-based technology that enables libraries to provide their patrons easy access to current, popular titles via their website -- thereby strengthening their presence in their communities and modernizing their offerings.

Key Points of Functionality

We will need to be able to interface with the library's patron database to authenticate the patron. That identity will be passed to Hulu with a default opt-out feature so Hulu may count the identity for their own purposes but not market directly to them. (Alpha)

All patron requests through the Hulu API must be captured and indexed for statistics and reports. This must include viewing content and view time for each piece of content selected. (Beta)

We will need quick and simple thoughput to the Hulu API to browse, search and select content once patron is authenticated. The Hulu authentication API should be included as part of this step. (Alpha)

Many libraries will want to throttle patron usage based on their own budget, i.e. a patron can only authenticate or check out viewing time once or twice each month. They may require age restrictions and thus require age authentication and then content-filtering based on age. This needs to be library deployable and changeable on their administration console. (Beta)

The library needs to monitor the usage of their ‘token’. The will need to see how many are used for the month, how many are left and an EASY way to order more if needed. (Ver. 1)

This must be easily deployable to dozens if not hundreds of libraries per week or month. Must be easily configurable with minimal to no IT assistance. Must easily fit into their website.

Future Developments

Our pending partnership with Hulu will allow us to provide unparalleled content, value, and service to libraries across the nation. In order to accomplish this, there are several milestones that must first be reached, as we work towards streamlining a software system that serves the needs of Hulu, DVA, libraries and their patrons.

The DVA Family

Brad Kugler, CEO of DVA, Inc. oversees business strategy, operations and finances. He grew the company from $4MM to $23MM years ago when he took the helm, and under his leadership the company has been profitable for 23 years.

Ryan Kugler, President, primarily buys/sells on the liquidation side of the business. He is personally responsible for nearly 50% of the company revenue -- or $10MM in sales. He has a knack for finding deals no one else can.

Ben Kugler, Senior VP of Sales/Marketing, directs sales and marketing strategy, keeping the team's eyes on the prize. Previously he grew a contract cleaning business to nearly $30MM in revenue.

Ann Ford, Library Sales Director, leads sales and operations of this new division. She has developed and branded DVA throughout this push. Excellent customer service is her specialty; somehow she manages to create and maintain personal connections with our thousands of customers.
