Giving to Charity Has Never Been This Fun

Philanthropy is at an inflection point, with Generation Y finding traditional means of giving to be tedious, boring, dated and time consuming.  It's time for real change!

Budge provides a mobile app that enables people to create challenges with friends and raise money for causes at the same time. We also offer a unique and compelling marketing platform that allows corporations to hold CSR campaigns for and sponsor non-profit organizations.

Let's Budge

Budge is fun. Challenges can be anything from eating as many sushi rolls as possible in a minute, doing a silly dance on the street or participating in a fun run.

Budge targets Gen Y. Generation Y is the most educated, tech-profcient, and soon-to-be largest American generation ever.

Budge is social. Fully integrated into Facebook, so that challenges can be shared, charities get exposure and the viral nature of social media takes over.

Budge is simple. Challenge, play and the loser donates. In just 4 easy steps, users can create a challenge on their mobile phone anywhere, anytime and when completed they can pay up with a seamless one click donation.

Budge is Gamified. For every donation made, users receive points and badges as a reward. Badges can be redeemed for discounts or prizes with participating sponsors.

Budge is disruptive. We overcome the traditional roadblocks to philanthropy by inspiring people to use their regular daily activities and interactions as a means to donate to causes they feel passionate about.

Key Accomplishments

Users. We have been in BETA phase, meaning that our goal has been to build an initial user base and get valuable feedback on how our sample base of users actually use the Budge application.  We were dropping new versions of the app every 2 weeks during this period. No marketing was done whatsoever during this time, and despite this we still managed to organically grow to 2,000 users.

Planned Marketing Campaign Revenue. We have already had the opportunity to gain significant traction with a number of key brands, including Time Out New York, Crunch Fitness, Jack Rabbit Sports, and we are working with Horizon Media, who approached us to leverage our platform to run Corporate Social Responsibility campaigns for their big brand clients. Additionally, we worked on a use-case with Clear Channel Broadcasting to integrate Budge into their major events on an ongoing basis.

Awards. We won the 2012 Australian Anthill Magazine 'Cool Company of the Year' award, out of 700 companies.  We are also a winner of the ComputerWorld 2013 Laureate Award, out of 700 nominees, and will be attending the Awards ceremony in June in Washington DC.

How Are We Different From Competition

In contrast with traditional modes of charity, we combine social behavior with micro-donations to inspire people to use their regular daily activities and interactions as a means to donate. Simply put, we are disrupting charitable giving by making the process both easy and accessible, allowing people to challenge their friends to do anything on behalf of a meaningful cause.

How It Works

On the Budge platform, a user chooses a ‘Budge’ (a challenge or task), a charity, and a dollar amount, then challenges a friend. For example, “I will give $2 to Breastcancer.org if you wear pink socks for a day.” Or, for a messy roommate, “You do the dishes tonight” and I will give $5 to charity.  If the friend does not complete or win the specified challenge, they donate. It's as simple as that.  All Budges are posted in the app’s newsfeed too, so your social circle can get in on the action.
